UE BOOM Packaging

After its acquisition by Logitech, Ultimate Ears expanded its product line into new territory—most notably with UE BOOM, a 360° portable wireless speaker known for its bold, immersive sound and energetic personality.

To match the speaker’s dynamic identity, I was tasked with designing a new packaging concept that goes beyond convention—capturing the spirit of the product and delivering an experience as vibrant and expressive as the UE BOOM itself.

More than functional, UE BOOM blends beauty and durability. Its versatile form and rugged materials reflect a lifestyle that’s loud, energetic, and always on the move.

Precious, Unexpected, and Intuitive

UE BOOM is a 360˚ portable speaker delivering bold, immersive sound for music lovers who live loud and on the go. With true wireless freedom, users can control playback or take calls from up to 50 feet away—hands-free.

Crafted to be both beautiful and durable, its versatile, travel-ready form and unique materials make it perfect for spontaneous moments and active lifestyles.

Refining the Design Direction

Extensive sketching and research led to a clear design direction built around a cylindrical form—enhanced with intuitive opening mechanics and unexpected details. Key graphics were carefully placed to align with both functionality and brand identity.

Designing the Full Unboxing Experience

A critical phase in the process, the unboxing experience was shaped through 2D storyboards, 3D modeling, and detailed renderings. Every moment—from opening the package to accessing accessories—was crafted for a seamless, intuitive, and satisfying interaction.

Final Package Storyboard & User Flow

This storyboard maps the full unboxing journey, highlighting each intuitive step and how the design meets both functional and emotional goals. The packaging is also designed for easy reassembly—encouraging users to keep it and reinforcing a thoughtful, user-centered approach.

Unexpected Packaging Experience

Inspired by the product’s cylindrical form, the packaging for Ultimate Ears BOOM offers striking shelf presence and brand distinction. Inside, a thoughtfully designed structure and clear iconography guide users through a seamless, choreographed unboxing experience—reinforcing both usability and emotional impact.

Unboxing with Purpose and Poise

As the outer sleeve slides off, a sleek, reusable case with a discreet hang tag is revealed—designed to meet retail needs while creating a sense of anticipation.

Inside, the UE BOOM is front and center, pre-charged and free of excess packaging, delivering a premium, frustration-free unboxing experience that aligns with its minimalist, ready-to-use philosophy.

Intuitive Accessory Organization

Clear iconography guides users to accessories, while pull-tabs offer easy access to drawers containing the Quick Start Guide and charger. Each drawer returns with a satisfying snap—reinforcing quality and attention to detail.
